How I work with clients
As an integrative psychotherapist and counsellor who has practised in Exeter for the past 25 years, I offer a range of therapeutic approaches, including Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Ericksonian hypnotherapy.
I work on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period. You may have a particular issue you wish to resolve or perhaps you need to spend some time looking at your priorities in life and what you would like to to change.
In addition to counselling, psychotherapy, NLP and hypnotherapy, I also offer a coaching service for clients who are looking at issues associated with their employment, for example, work related stress, lifestyle balance and motivational strategies.
- Stress management
- Relationships including issues relating to post separation and divorce
- Problems associated with Menopause
- Aging and looking ahead
- Women’s health and wellbeing
- Pain management
- Panic Attacks
- Mindfulness Training
“If there is a specific problem, I am experienced in helping clients who have difficulties with the following issues and specialise in stress management, anxiety, depressive feelings, panic attacks and phobia.”
Walk & Talk
Walk & Talk therapy is counselling in motion and often more dynamic than a traditional indoor session.
My Approach & Philosophy
As a counsellor and psychotherapist, my approach is integrative. This means that I draw on a wide range of therapeutic methods so that I can work in the most effective way to help you achieve the outcomes you want. To do this, it is important that we work together so that our relationship is an alliance formed to help you make the changes that are important to you.
As human beings, we have within ourselves all the resources we need to improve our situation. Sometimes they are under-developed or unused, or perhaps we don’t even know they exist. My role is to help you find those resources and discover what needs to be done for you to move forward. This may take the form of seeing something that previously seemed negative in a different light, or learning new skills to help you deal with the situation in which you find yourself. It may also mean exploring how unresolved or old expectations are affecting your ability to cope with a problem or even what you choose to pay attention to. Attention and inattention can be important factors in how we feel about ourselves.
It is my belief that the function of any therapy is to encourage us to do things that make us feel better through new learning and experiences. By discovering different ways of thinking and feeling we can improve our wellbeing and increase our resilience to life’s challenges. After all, the reason why someone walks through a counsellor’s door is to become happier and more contented with their life.
